Mohsen Badi (Maj 22, 1908 - August 3, 1989)
Mohsen "Mohammad Hassan" Badi (May 22, 1908 - August 3, 1989) was an Iranian director, editor, cameraman, and producer.
One of the founders of the film laboratory in Iran. He was the founder of one of the oldest film studios (Oghab Studio) and laboratories (Badi Studio, which was later renamed to Iran Film Industry Service Center).
He played a significant role in the early development of cinematography, sound recording, trocage and laboratory affairs of Iranian cinema.
The films that he contributed in making are Shekare khanegi (producer, cinematographer and editor, 1951), Velgard (producer and cinematographer, 1950), A Party in Hell (Trokaj, 1956) and Setarei cheshmak zad | A Star Twinkled (producer and director, 1963).
Born 1908 in Basra (which is now located in the Republic of Iraq, and at that time was part of the Ottoman Empire, like the entire country of present-day Iraq).
His father, Hassan Badi, was the consul of Iran in Basra. He returned to Iran in 1924. In 1927, he went to Paris and studied French there for a year. Then he got a radio broadcasting scholarships from England and went to London.
Besides studying radio broadcasting, he also completed his French. During his four-year stay in London, he managed to obtain a degree equivalent to engineering (radio, telephone, telegraph and wireless engineering) and then returned to Paris. He stayed there for eight years and established a workshop there and started building and repairing radio receivers.
During this time, he was also studying and received a diploma in electrical and mechanical engineering.
In 1942, he returned to Iran and designed the first automatic black and white film printing machine with the help of Dr. Esmail Koushan. During these years in Ferdowsi Street, he also managed the innovative radio shop that he had founded.
In 1948, he succeeded in making optical sounding on film. In 1952, he founded "Oghab Studio", which was later renamed "Badi Studio" and is still active by his children.
He died on Thursday, the 3rd of August 1989.
