How Thirsty are you?
“Invasion” is
Shahram
Mokri’s third feature after “Ashkan,
the Charmed Ring and Other Stories,” and of course “Fish
& Cat.” Both pics experiment “with nonlinear narrative, thriller
elements and point of view,” as Variety critic Alissa Simon wrote in her “Cat”
review. -- variety.com
In a very long eclipse of the
sun, an unknown disease has been widespread. Ali is accused of the murder of
Saman in a club and the police is going to stage a reconstruction of the
murder.
Someone’s been murdered and the police is investigating in
a stadium, the crime spot. They have arrested the murder suspect and they just
try to find out the murdering procedure, however, it is quite complicated and
the friends of the murdered person are not to be very collaborative.

Cast: Babak Karimi, Levon Haftvan, Abed Abest,
Pedram Sharifi, Mohammad Berahmani, Elaheh Bakhshi, Mohamad Sareban, Saeed
Zarei
“Invasion” has been
produced by “Fish
& Cat” producer Sepehr Seifi with the same
crew as “Cat,” including ace lenser Mahmud
Kalari (“A
Separation”), who shot that pic’s bravura 134-minute single
shot.
Director's Statement
“Invasion”
is the result of a group work in collaboration with individuals who are each of
the best in their field. A collection of unparalleled actors, all coming from
theater, and behind-the-scenes footage. For me, as the creator of this film,
there is no concession unless I have had the chance to bring together such a
group. That’s why I do not get an excuse to imagine that I could have done a
better job of this movie. I did what I thought, and if there is a shortage in
the film, it’s about me and my words.
The “Invasion”
is a mix of my favorite cinematic worlds. It’s a complex that made the complex
world and I hope that this world doesn’t feel hard to understand and penetrate
for the spectator. I know that there are many ways to enter the hard
wall.
I wanted to thank the most important members of the group in this
note but each name follows other names. This group is like a chain linking up.
So, I write only that my biggest fear is not to find all this power in the
future films. But no. I just have to raise my head up a little bit and look at
them. They are just around the corner.
Shahram
Mokri (born 17 August 1978) is an Iranian film director and
screenwriter. He graduated from Soore University with a Bachelor of Film and
Television in Directing. His film, Fish
& Cat was shown at the 70th Venice International Film Festival
and won the special orizzonti award for innovative content. He was nominated for
the 2013 Asia Pacific Screen Award for Achievement in Directing for Fish
& Cat. For his short film The Dragonfly Storm, Mokri won Best
Director at the 2007 Noor Iranian Film Festival. (aecinema.org)
