Musa Afshar (1926 – October 1984)
Musa Afshar (1926 – October 1984) was an Iranian director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, and editor.
Musa Afshar is known for Mard-e-rouz (1968, producer), Zarb-e shast (1969, cinematographer) and Aghaye gharne bistom (1964, editor).
Musa Afshar is among the active cinematographers of the 1960s. Unlike the second generation of cinematographers in Iranian cinema, he began his cinematic career not in the field of photography and film printing, but rather in the field of sound (synchronization) and film dubbing, and gradually moved behind the camera. (Abbas Baharlu, Hundred Faces of Iranian Cinema, 2002)
When in mid-1955, engineer Seifollah Kamrani founded "Studio Central" and began to think about providing equipment and recruiting staff, Musa Afshar, along with Iraj Farahvashy and Mozaffar Mizany, were the first to join him as technicians, and apparently Afshar was the only one among the two whose talent did not go unnoticed by cinema professionals and film critics. (Abbas Baharlu, ibid.)
Tare ankabout / Spider's Web (Mehdi Mirsamadzadeh, 1963) is the first film that Afshar independently shot at the "Panorama Cinema Company" (Sazmane Cinemaie Panaroma), which was founded by himself and Iraj Ghaderi in the winter of 1962 in the Alborz Building (Lalehzar-e Nou Street). (Abbas Baharlu, ibid.)
