The filming of "Negligence" was completed before the 1953 coup, and as Hassan Hosseini writes in his book "Guide to Iranian Cinema," it is unacceptable to link it to this event. However, historians such as Fereydoon Jeyrani insist that the film's painful and suffering atmosphere is a result of the suffocating atmosphere after 1953.
The film was met with negative reviews at the time of its release. Toghrol Afshar, one of the pioneers of Iranian cinema criticism, wrote in the weekly magazine "Kaviyan": "The film pretends that misery cannot be prevented. No effort or struggle can prevent human misery and hardship... This mindset creates a spirit of pessimism and despair." Manouchehr Vatanpour, in the weekly magazine "Setareh Cinema," also considered it as one of the weaknesses of "Negligence" that its villains escape punishment.
Now that we look at the film, some of its images from Tehran and the north of the country have realistic elements that give the film some life and make its exaggerated story, which is artificially full of pain and suffering, bearable. --ettelaat.com
