Morteza Aghili (September 11, 1944, Tehran, Iran)
Morteza Aghili (born 12 September 1941) is an Iranian actor and director known for movies such as Kako (1971), Topoli (1972), Under The Skin of the Night (1974), Faseleh (1975), Gol-haye kaghazi (1977) and Jay-e amn (1977).
Morteza Aghili WAS interested in acting from his childhood. His uncle was a reciter in religious ceremonies.
With the help of Bijan and Bahman Mofid, who lived in Shahbaz Street like him, he joined amateur theater groups, and from the beginning of the 1961, he started acting professionally by joining Shahin Sarkisian's theater group. Before appearing in the cinema, he acted for a decade alongside famous theater figures.
Morteza Aghili left Iran after the 1979 revolution and currently resides in Los Angeles, USA.
He experienced professional cinema in 1971 with Kako, directed by Shapoor Gharib. In 1977, he directed the film Jay-e Amn (A Safe Place), produced by Mehdi Misaghieh, in which he played the lead role himself.
In the 1970s, Aghili was one of the symbols of Iranian popular cinema known as Film-farsi. Of course, his acting in several important films of that decade is also noteworthy. He acted in more than 60 films in less than 10 years and directed four films, reaching the peak of his popularity during this period.
The 1979 Revolution changed the course of Morteza Aghili's life. His last film in Iran was The Fifth Rider of Fate, directed by Saeed Motalebi, that was made in 1979. After starring in this film, Morteza Aghili could no longer continue working as an actor of cinema and returned to theater, but after a while he was even banned from working in theater and went to America.
Morteza Aghili's return to Iran in 2019 was first announced by popular Iranian actor, Parviz Parastui. The same days that the news of his return to Iran was published, was when his son's death was annonced in the summer of 2019.
Morteza Aghili played in the Hammer-eating Metals theater play in February 2021 after four decades. This play was performed in Tehran's Hafez Hall.
