Kianoush Ayari (May 14, 1951, Ahvaz, Iran)
Born in Ahwaz in 1951. Kianoush Ayari is the most experimental filmmaker of the Iranian cinema.
He started his career in 1970 with the Ahvaz Chapter of Free Cinema Group, and soon made a name for himself in this experimental trend of amateur cinema.
Ayari’s socially analytic viewpoint has created exceptional scenes in his works, portraying the lives of people who are lost in different layers of society.
Ayari is one of the few inimitable Iranian filmmakers whose works are marked with his special brand of cinematic characteristics and elements.
It is easy to distinguish his admirable outlook and signature style even after watching a short scene. Ayari’s cinema is a genuine, extremely Iranian cinema.
Ayari has been active as a director, screenwriter, producer and editor. His professional resume consists of a TV series, a number of shorts and 11 feature films, which have been highly popular in Iran and abroad. --khanehcinema
