Tim Mielants (born December 11, 1979 in Mortsel) is a Belgian filmmaker.
Tim Mielants was born in Mortsel on December 11, 1979, studied at Campus Sint-Lukas in Brussels and initially started his career as a director of various Flemish television series such as Super 8 (2009), Code 37, broadcast on VTM (2011-2012), Zingaburia (2012-2013), Cordon (2014), and Professor T. (2015).
He subsequently worked abroad on The Tunnel (2016), the entire third series of Peaky Blinders (2016), Legion (2017), The Terror (2018), Tales from the Loop (2020) and as pilot director of The Responder (2022).
In 2007 he made his debut with his first satirical short film Duffel and in 2019 with his first feature film Patrick, based on all his childhood memories of a summer at a French nudist campsite. For this alternative film he won the "best director prize" at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. At the Austin Fantastic Fest, Tim Mielants won a Next Wave Award for the film and for himself as best director. At the Magritte du cinéma 2020, the film received five nominations and Patrick became the winner of Best Flemish film. In January 2021, Mielants also received Ensors for the best director and screenplay for this film.
After this, Mielants started working on the film adaptation of 'WIL' after the historical war novel of the same name, written by the Flemish author Jeroen Olyslaegers in 2016 and which premiered in 2023.
