Pietro Malegori was born on 31 March 1987 in Monza, Italy.
Pietro is a director and editor, known for Shukran (2023), Free Town (2022), Res Creata (2019) and Not to Forget (2021).
After completing his studies abroad he moved to Milan, where he began his career as a film editor.
In 2010 he moved on to directing, working for brands such as Yamaha, Carrera, BMW, Engie and Nokia. In the following years he collaborates with artists such as Gabriele Salvatores, Willem Dafoe, Francesco Jodice and Marco Gentile.
From 2012 to 2015 he wrote and directed some short films, making himself known at national film festivals. His latest short film is Sons of Tibet, which features the collaboration of Korean actor Yoon Joyce and non-professional actors. A theme deeply felt by the Tibetan community, it tells the last days of the life of a young family man who immolates himself by setting himself on fire to fight against the Chinese regime. The film received official recognition from the Dalai Lama and was screened in more than 20 theaters throughout Italy to raise public awareness.
In 2015 he created a mini-series in 5 episodes for Sky Arte on the world of music production. International artists such as Ludovico Einaudi, Jack Savoretti and Melanie de Biasio reveal their sources of inspiration to the public.
Pietro Malegori then participates in the production of two documentaries: Wide Blue Delivery, winner of best film at the 2016 Napoli film festival and selected in more than 15 national and international festivals; and Nuovo Alfabeto Umano, a documentary focused on the phenomenon of immigration in Italy, shot entirely inside one of the largest reception centers in the country.
In 2017 he co-produced Moby Dick, with Kasia Smutniak as the protagonist. The film won the Nastri d'argento as best short film the same year. From this first story, the idea of telling the drama of immigration in a trilogy involving different talents was born.
Pietro Malegori is currently in pre-production with the second chapter entitled Smuggler which he will direct and in writing with the third chapter.
In 2018 he began writing his first feature film Shukran as director. Set in Syria during the civil war, it is a drama that tells the true story of a heart surgeon who saves the life of a child terrorist. (classagora.it)
