Ardekoul (1997)
Synopsis
Five days after the recent earthquake that took the south of Iran by surprise, Jafar Panahi goes to Arkedoul where the tremors were strongest.
Armed with his video camera, he captures the victims' searches and scenes of mourning as well as the chanting of schoolchildren in improvised classes amidst the rubble.
Faced with human tragedy, the director of Badkonak-e sefid (The White Balloon) manages to make out, following the example of Kiarostami in Et la vie continue, the fragile signs of hope.
