Despite being punished by his parents and teachers, Qasem isn't doing well in school. Instead of studying, he spends the whole day playing football.
When he finds out that the national team will be playing in Tehran, he is determined to get together enough money for the ticket and the bus trip there, which he succeeds in doing in various unorthodox ways.
He travels to Tehran overnight, but after a series of mishaps and having bought the coveted ticket, he falls asleep on the grass outside the stadium and misses the game.
When he wakes up it's too late: the game is over... Kiarostami's first feature film is the story of utter disappointment told with disarming sincerity.
