Ali Mosaffa (December 1, 1966, Teheran, Iran)
Ali Mosaffa was born in Teheran in 1966. His first lead film appearance was the role in the 1996 film Leila, directed by Dariush Mehrjui.
Mosaffa has starred in films such as Pari (1995), Leila (1996), and Borj-e Minoo (1996) and a TV series, Keef-e Englisi (The English Bag, 1999).
A Civil Engineering graduate from Tehran University, Mosaffa worked as an actor in the early 1990s, earning praise for his work in a loose adaptation of J. D. Salinger’s Franny and Zooey, entitled Pari (1994) (dir. Dariush Mehrjui).
The performance won him the Best Supporting Actor prize at the 13th Fajr International Film Festival.
A series of short films, including Incubus (1991), Rush (1993), The Deceit of Poesy (1996) and The Neighbour (1999, Best Experimental Film at the Iranian Short Film Festival) led to his feature film debut, "Sima-Ye Zani Dar Doordast" (Portrait of a Lady Far Away) (2005).
Premiering at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Portrait of a Lady Far Away toured several of the world’s prestigious film festivals, including Montreal, London, and Istanbul.
Mosaffa’s second feature, The Last Step, screened at Tehran’s Fajr Film Festival in February 2012 and receiving the Best Script award.
The Last Step also recently received the Best Actress award, the FIPRESCI Award and the Best Film Poster prize at Karlovy Vary in July 2012.
Mosaffa married his co-star in Leila, the Iranian actress Leila Hatami in 1999. They have two children: a son named Mani and a daughter named Assale.
