Alireza Khatami (1980, Iran)
Accidentally born in 1980, Alireza Khatami worked in the film industry in Iran before (im)migrating to Malaysia, where he studied Creative Multimedia and worked as a Visual Effects supervisor.
In 2010 his contingent journey took him to the United States to study Film Production and (hopefully) receive a Master's(!) in Fine Art.
His diasporic struggles have produced short films, stories, scripts and installations. Alireza has been lucky enough to have his works awarded and showcased in several countries.
In 2012 he was selected to participate in Cinefondation residency of Cannes Film Festival to develop his first feature film "Oblivion Verses", which tells the story of a Morgue-man who learns to resist the violence of forgetting in the aftermath of the 2009 election in Iran.
The project received financial support from the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2011.
