The Iranian feature film Rhinos Conquered The Middle East by Vahid Vakilifar was world premiered at 61th Antalya Golden Orange film festival in Turkey between October 10-12, 2024.

Vahid Vakilifar who is director of the movies Gesher /2010 -Taboor / 2012 – Jonas /2016- K9 / 2022, and whose films have appeared at festivals like Rotterdam, San Sebastian, Tribeca, Karlovy Vary, embraces a style distinct from the traditional approach of Iranian cinema. With an in-depth look at human issues, especially about human loneliness and isolation, he has created cinematic works that not only provide meaningful experiences of human life, but also chart a new path for Iranian independent cinema.



Vakilifar describes his film Rhinos Conquered The Middle East as follows: 'This is the story of ancient societies striving to align with modern and global developments. The more they strain their old systems of thought, the more they become constrained. In such societies, when they can't process or solve their own issues, after a few historical periods, constipation sets in, leading to blockages.'

Yes, this is exactly the story of ancient societies that want to adapt to modern and global development, but the more they push their old perceptual system, the more they contract.

In such a society, which is not able to digest and solve its own problems, after a few historical periods, it becomes constipated and obstruction occurs. This sick society behaves like a sick person and thinks that in order to solve the problem of obstruction and congestion, it must use more force and put more pressure on its old perceptual system, and this causes that society to disintegrate from within.

This disintegrated society does not know that it must think more about substances that it cannot digest, and train its public perception system to digest them, in which case it may be saved from historical constipation.

If the system does not do that and just puts more pressure on itself, there is only one end and that is anal rupture!

The living conditions of Vahid Vakilifar have become so difficult that he tried to sell one of his kidneys. This issue is raised as a symbol of indifference to independent artists and economic challenges in Iranian cinema. As a filmmaker who made Iran's first science-fiction film, he deserves more support and should not be forced to sell his body parts.
