The great 83 year old director Darius Mehrjoui and his wife were murdered last night inside their house with a knife. I did my very first movie the pear tree with him when I was 14 years old. He was One of the most incredible directors of Iran and a great friend through out these 26 years… I am without words to describe how this makes all of us feel about the state of Iran. State of this world. State of humanity.
I haven't been able to sleep since last night. How can you leave your body like this? How can someone kill you, your wife with a knife...
It's unbelievable. You didn't die in the end, you were killed. Dariush! There will no longer be a Mehrjui to turn your life story and death into a movie. A movie with such a beyond-surreal ending.
What has happened to Iran, when Dariush Mehrjui, at the age of 83, is slaughtered with a knife next to his wife... Maryam... Safa... Mona... How will you bear this bitterness.... This nausea is not going to stop.
Haniyeh of Santoori:
"I can't stand anything anymore now I hate everything, this lying country, (We changed the word "country" in the film's voiceover to "city", so that they would give permission to screen the film, but they did not give) cruel, that makes everyone addicted and miserable, that rapes, imprisons, kills, executes... cuts off heads, tortures... mutilates... Who would have thought that The fate of Dariush Mehrjui - who was loved by people from Khani Abad (in Tehran) to the bloody Shemroun - Could be like this? "
