Reza Rooygari (born December 27, 1946, in Shemiran, Tehran, Iran) is an Iranian actor and singer.

He started his professional activity in the late 1960s mostly in the theater and has been prolific in cinema, television and theater. He is also the singer of the famous revolutionary song "Allah Allah" at the beginning of the 1979 revolution.

In 1978, while acting in a play by Bijan Mofid, Fereydoun Khoshnoud, who was the composer of that play, contacted Rooygari and asked him to sing a hymn for the days of the revolution and the voice of Allah Akbar on the rooftops of Tehran.

Rooygari was nominated for the Golden Statue for Best Supporting Actor at the Iranian Cinema Festival for his performance in Boutique (2008).

In 2009, he portrayed Kisan Abu Umrah in the television series Mokhtarnameh. One of his other important performances is playing the role of Fereydon in the TV series Be Koja Chenin Shetaban (2008-2009).

He acted in high-profile films in the late 1980s and in the 1990s, such as The Tenants, Eagles, cheetahs, Kani Manga, and Boutique. On television, he became a familiar face to people in programs such as Mahale Boro Biya and Mahale Behdasht.

Criticism of selling roles in cinema

On February 2021 in an interview with Iskanews, Rooygari expressed his disatisfaction with sale of roles in Iranian cinema and protested against it by saying: We must come to the conclusion that art is not for sale. A person who becomes an actor by buying their way into the movie industry will not reach anywhere; Because if you don't have experience in this profession and don't work hard for it, there'll be no gain; But there are some people who choose this way to make and earn money.
