Night of the Hunchback | Shab-e Ghouzi | Nuit de bossu (1965)
Synopsis
Long considered a masterpiece of Iranian cinema, writer-director Farrokh Ghaffari’s dark farce chronicles the misadventures of a traveling theatrical troupe trying to dispose of the corpse of one of its own after a tragic yet comical accident.
Based on a tale from the classic anthology, The Thousand and One Nights, the film - replete with sight gags and wacky misunderstandings - is funny in any language. --Mubi
Adapted from a story in 1001 Nights and set in a popular theatre troupe, the story follows the death of an actor in a farcical accident and the brilliantly elaborate gags and misunderstandings that abound in subsequent attempts to dispose of his body. -- IMDb
