The movie "Justice/Daad", the latest feature film of Abolfazl Jalili, is going to Poland in its world premiere.
"In this movie, I have tried to consider the theme of keeping the promise, which I hope to have succeeded in doing that."
"I am personally satisfied and happy with this film and I hope more than anything, the actors of my film, who I think worked very well and hard, will be seen," Abolfazl Jalili said after the screening of his latest film "Justice/Daad" at 40th Warsaw International Film Festival.
"Like my previous films, I worked with a group of four people, but very close, for this purpose, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of the children."
The director of "Dance of Dust", "Don/Daan", "Scabies/La Gale", "Det Yani Dokhtar/G Means Girl", "A True Story" has a successful track record as a filmmaker of films being screened in the film festivals of Venice, Locarno, Tokyo, Cannes, Three Continents, Kerala.
I started my cinema career with an 8mm camera at the age of 16. Early on, I once fought on set with a violent bully and was condemned to five days in a youth detention centre. I could have avoided the incarceration if I had paid compensation, but, out of pride and curiosity, I decided to purge my sentence. During my detention I formed friendships with the other detainees that I would never forget. Most of my films have indeed been inspired by them. ‘Justice’ too had as its inspiration those five days spent in a youth detention centre.
Synopsis
In a Tehran youth detention centre, detainees have the right to short furloughs, as long as their family provides sufficient bail to guarantee their return. The detention centre’s governor decides to help those without family to take advantage of this right. He asks them to swear on the Koran that they will return to the centre once their period of leave expires. Emkan, detained for two years, refuses this arrangement. The following day, the governor on his own responsibility asks him to merely give his word to return. Once out, Emkan contacts his friend, Kaveh, who works for a small theatre in an industrial town. Will Emkan keep his word?
