Joke | Shookhi (1999)
Synopsis
Reza's a two-bit criminal con artist battling in the courts with his deceased wife's family over custody of his son.
But his life changes one night when a passenger plane crashes in front of him as he's returning back to Tehran with smuggled drugs.
He goes into the plane thinking it's a good opportunity to pick some pockets, but he ends up saving all of the passenger's lives by dragging them one by one from the wreckage.
Afterwards, everyone wants to know who this anonymous hero is, but since he's stuck in jail, he can't come forward to take credit for what he's done.
That's not a problem for his friend Ebrahim, though, who by using Reza's description of what he'd done, introduces himself as the hero and instantly becomes a media darling.
That is, until Reza gets out of jail and starts harassing Ebrahim, which causes the reporter that was a passenger on the plane and who originally broke the story to start doubting herself and wondering whether an ex-con could really be the hero who saved all those lives, including her own, that fateful night.
