Faramarz Gharibian (November 17, 1941, Tehran, Iran)
Gharibian is a retired Iranian actor, born on 17 November 1941 in Tehran.
He won three Crystal Simorgh Awards for his performances in The Train (1988), Misty Harbour (1992), and Rain Man (Marde Barani) (2000).
Gharibian went to the United States in 1967 to study acting at the college of Visual Art but returned home on the recommendation of the film director Masoud Kimiai to appear in “Soil” (Khak, 1972), which Kimiai was planning to shoot.
This was Gharibian's first serious involvement in cinema as an actor. Before “Soil” (1972); however, Gharibian had appeared in a short scene in a previous film by Kimiai, “Come Stranger” (Bigane biya, 1968), on which he had also collaborated as assistant director.
Gharibian's debut feature film as director was "Strife at Tasuki", which he made in 1987.
His brilliant acting in “The Deer” (1974) alongside Behrouz Vossoughi brought him fame.
In the 1980s, he appeared in numerous films and received the Golden Plaque for Best Actor for “Train” from the 6th Fajr International Film Festival.
He experienced directing in 1986 with “Duel in Tasouki”. He proved his directing skills with “Her Eyes” (Cheshmhayash) in 2001. The film was screened at the Asia Pacific Film Festival (Indonesia), the International Forum of New Cinema (India), and The Cairo International Film Festival. Gharibian won the Best Actor award for the film at the Harare International Film Festival (Zimbabwe).
Qaribian was nominated for the Best Actor award of the Fajr International Film Festival for “The Wolf’s Trail” in 1991.
He won his first Crystal Symorgh for “Misty Harbor” in 1992 and the second one for “The Rain Man” in 1999.
He won the Best Actor award for “Dancing In The Dust” at the Iran Cinema Celebration Awards, Moscow International Film Festival and Asia Pacific Film Festival.
He was nominated for Best Actor for “The Beautiful City” at the Fajr International Film Festival and Iran Cinema Celebration Awards, and won the Silver Peacock from the International Film Festival of India.
He won a Certificate of Merit for Best Actor from the Fajr International Film Festival in 2010 for “Alzheimer”.
