Ali Raffi | Rafie (January 11, 1938, Esfahan, Iran)
Iranian Theatre, cinema director and stage designer, born in 1938 in Isfahan.
Born in 1938 in Isfahan, Ali Raffi educated in physical education in France where he got interested in theater.
He educated in both sociology and theater fields in France. Mr Raffi holds a masters’ degree in sociology and a PhD in theater from Sorbonne University.
He got his B.S and Master of sociology from Sorbonne university 1964-1968. He got the B.s, Master and PHD of theater from Sorbonne university 1967-1974.
“Colours and scenes are very important to me. I always say, theatre is for watching, not for listening.”
He started stage direction and acting in France. In early 1970s, he returned to Iran to be dean of Dramatic Arts Faculty while teaching theater at the Fine Arts Faculty of Tehran University.
Raffi has performed in a number of films and T.V. programs in France and England, teaches at the Tehran University.
He has been head of the City Theater in Tehran from 1975 to 1978, dean of the Dramatic College from 1977 to 1980.
He has performed in the stage productions of the plays Antigone, Blood Wedding, Romeo and Juliet, The Maids, Never snows in Egypt, Crime and Punishment..
In addition to fruitful career in theater, Mr Raffi (Rafie) directed two movies “The Fish Fall in Love” and “Agha Yousef”.
