Kazem Mollaie (born December 4, 1981 in Sabzevar) is an Iranian film director, writer, editor.
Kazem Mollaie started filmmaking with a short film named From Game to … in 1999. Mollaie hold a B.A. in Cinema Directing from "Soureh University of Tehran" in 2005.
He has been the member of several organizations such as Iranian Young Cinema Society (IYCS), the Iranian Alliance of Motion Picture Guilds (Khaneh Cinema) and member of Board of Directors of Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA).
He is known for his first feature movie named Kupal (2017) and short films like Delete (2011) and Minus (2009).
"The Badger" premiered at the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival in China and was nominated for Best New Asian Talent Award. The film premiered in North America in the competition section of the 27th Austin Film Festival (Screenwriters Festival), and Kazem Mollaie won the Best Feature Film award at this prestigious screenwriting event.
In addition to appearing at Film festivals in Shanghai in China and Austin in USA, "The Badger" has been shown at more than 50 international festivals, including Hamilton(Canada), Sofia(Bulgaria), Salento(Italy), Maryland(America), Five Lakes(Germany), Riverside(USA), Avancai(Portugal), Kickster(England), Los Angeles Asian Films, Spanish Kalia, Jaipur(India), Barcelona etc. And has won 23 different awards.
"Kupal" (2016) is Kazem Mollaie's first feature film; it tells the story of a hunter and taxidermist named "Dr. Ahmad Kupal" (played live by Levon Haftavan) who on the last day of the year faces a strange challenge. The first screening of "Kupal" was in the Sodaye Simorgh section of the 35th Iranian Fajr Film Festival (2016).
