A romantic comedy of sorts, Meeting Leila features Leila Hatami (from A Separation), who plays a woman –a perfume tester– who is trying to get her fiancé to quit smoking.
The movie mostly revolves around her fiancé, an “ideas man”, who is a serious chain smoker. It also doesn’t help that smoking triggers his creativity, which he needs since he works for an ad agency.
He can’t afford to come up with bad ideas, but he doesn’t want to lose Leila. The film takes us through his often funny struggles until he has to make a decision.
In the press materials, the director Adel Yaraghi, who also stars in the film, reflects: “When we are alone we do as we please.
When we are together we have to please. Could we be together doing what we please?”
Perhaps the most attractive and fresh thing about Meeting Leila is that it achieves in providing us with an answer that is both honest and enjoyable.
When we are alone we do as we please ; when we are together we have to please. Could we be together doing what we please?
