Shahabi was born in a military family. While her father was a military man, her husbond was writer, poet and composer.
After getting married she joined the Oskouie Theatre Gruppe, and appeared in a number of plays at the Dramatic Arts Office and then was employed by the Ministry of Art and Culture.

At age 24 she played for the first time in Mirsamadzadeh's "Event in the Forest" (Majeraye jangal, 1960), but her popularity as an actress came first with playing in "Mirror" (1985), a TV series by Golamhossein Lotfi.

She has said:

But they should not only be dedicated to their artistic endeavors but also to things in their life that is equally holy as well, like being mothers to their children and wives to their husbonds."
