Taghi Mokhtar (1945, Quchan, Iran)
Taghi Mokhtar (born 1945 in Quchan) was an Iranian actor, director, journalist and film critic.
Taghi Mokhtar is known for Ta'assob (1975), The Grey Morning (1977) and Punishment (1973).
He started working in press media in 1963 and has been working as a critic, writer and editor in weekly film magazines, Setareh Cinema Monthly, and New Cinema Monthly.
He has followed literature and performing arts with interest since high school, in Dar al-Funoun school, and has collaborated with the press of that time by writing articles.
At the age of 19, he became the secretary of the cultural and artistic pages of "Keyhan" and then he considered publishing a movie magazine and rented the "Mahe No" magazine, which had fallen into trouble, from its franchise owner. With the publication of "Mahe No" in the mid-60s, this magazine has left a good legacy as one of the most influential film magazines in supporting independent and serious films in Iranian cinema.
Taqi Mokhtar, after being the editor of other magazines such as "Setareh Cinema", "Setareh Cinema Haftegi" and "Film and Art", turned to acting and directing, and at the age of 24, he appeared for the first time in "A Girl is going to Die Tonight" (Emshab dokhtari mimirad, 1969), a film directed by Mostafa Alemian.
From that time until the movie "Sobh-e Khakestar" with his own acting, script and direction in 1977, Mokhtar played the lead role in 18 movies and directed two movies.
He left Iran in 1977, one year before the Iranian revolution, and immigrated to America. He then began to study cinema at Virginia State College and became a member of the "American Film Institute" and wrote the screenplay "Open Your Arms", the story of an Iranian immigrant who has lost his identity, went as far as producing a film in partnership with HBO, but the project failed for some reasons.
