Saeed Rad was an Iranian actor and playwright.

Saeed Rad made a name for himself in Iranian cinema in 1971 with "Adieu Friend" directed by Amir Naderi, and in a short period of time, he established himself as an actor capable of playing the role of an anti-hero.

In 1972, he acted in three important films, Sadegh The Kurd directed by Nasser Taghvai, The Morning of the Fourth Day directed by Kamran Shirdel and Impious directed by Fereydoun Gole.

During the years before the 1979, Rad had succeeded to win two awards from the Iranian Sepas Film Festival for his performances in The Morning of the Fourth Day (1972) and Deadlock / Tangna (1973).

In Dying a Thousand Times / Hezar bar Mordan (1977), Rad played alongside Ali Azad and Mehdi Fakhimzadeh.

Saeed Rad acted in about 35 movies from 1971 to 1979. In 1980, after the revolution, at the age of 37, he appeared in "Border / Marz" (by Jamshid Heydari), alongside Davoud Rashidi and Ahoo Kheradmand.

Two years later in 1982 he played the role of a SAVAK agent (a security agent) in The Red Line (by Masoud Kimiai) ; about the reasons why the film was banned shortly after its screening, it is said that according to The Ministry of Guidance he was "too handsome" for the role.

It was after playing in Eagles in 1984 that he was banned from acting and left the country.

In the mid-1980s, he left Iran and spent some time in Lahore, Pakistan, India, Canada, and the United States of America. He returned to his homeland in 1999 and after years being away from cinema, at the age of 55, he played his first comeback role in Duel (2004), a war movie directed by Ahmadreza Darwish.

For his role in Receiver / Girandeh (2012), he won the diploma of honor award for the best actor from the Fajr Film Festival.

Because of his solemn, stern gaze and to some extent a rough complexion, Rad has played the role of rebel individuals living in the margin of society.

He is one of the main figures of Iranian New Wave cinema, a movement that rose in the early 1970s and faded in the middle of the decade.
